Metaphors of Eternity

Katerina Bim uses figurative language of myths and symbols in her painting, she explores the spiritual world of humankind and desire for happiness. She creates painting-metaphors that can transform not only the space, but also one’s soul and heart

The sincerity of her paintings and the appeal to bright feelings are in line with metamodernity, the very trend of art movement. Katerina is a member of the Creative Union of Russian Artists. She has won a number of different awards and participated in international exhibitions. Her works enrich private collections in Russia, Norway, Georgia, France, USA

"When you meet with my paintings, you find yourself in a metaphysical world, where unicorns walk on pastures, buds burst into bloom, and the wind of hope inspires angels and causes colored whirlwinds of leaves. The greenery in my works appears to be intuitive because of paint streaks and random waves of my brush, I could depict it even with my eyes closed, because they are not botanical sketches, they are rather fractal bends and branches, the cosmic pulsation of all living things. I associate these natural motives with the naturalness and purity of the soul of a person who comes into the world for happiness, joy and light. As adults, each of us bears the memory of paradise, for its glimpses we felt as kids".

"My mission is to reveal a spiritual candelabrum of our hearts, it reminds all of us that humankind belongs to eternity and that true happiness can be found in unity with God.
Each painting lives its own creative life and talks to the viewers in their own language, inspiring the transformation of their hearts.
My paintings also help to survive difficult experiences, as life is extremely contrasting, we often feel weak in the face of evil, pain, hatred. My paintings are about that thriving Life which opposes the dead emptiness and defeats it with love. Everyone can have spiritual experience and meet the Creator of the Universe. He can gently touch your soul and make you see the sparks of the Kingdom of Heaven in every thing, in people, in nature, in art. This is the reality I depict in my paintings".

Biography:
Katerina was born at 1983 in Moscow, Russia, and comes from an artist family. She graduated from the V.A. Favorsky School of Graphics and Printing Art in 2006.
She worked as an illustrator, designer, director and artist of animated films, photo artist. Katerina also graduated from the Saint Philaret’s university (its theological faculty, as well as its faculty of history). The artist's interests include philosophy, theology, and depth psychology.

A series of paintings about a metaphorical egg

The egg is a symbol of the birth of life and the inner secret appearance of the human soul. There is an endless universe of personality inside this egg, which is to be studied and which is for making your discoveries in it. Up to a certain time, each of us remains an embryo, unable to appear, break the shell of fears, doubts and hardships and hatch for the first flight, to realize our potential and vocation. Still, each decision has to be made on time, it is possible to break through the shell only with stronger wings.

The appearance of the chick cannot spring forth without external efforts, as Someone carefully covers the nest with warmth and grows us with his love.

"Vocation" triptych
80х80 cm, canvas, acryl, 2022

The paintings are exhibited with a chair. The spectator, sitting down on a chair, becomes a part of the exposition, having the opportunity to hear the call from above addressed to him/her personally.
The triptych was completed in early February 2022 and was conceived as a warning to humanity, a call to come to their senses and move on to a new stage of life on Earth without wars and enmity.

Now their trumpet voice already sounds more apocalyptic. But prophecy is not predestination, its fulfillment depends on all of us.
These angels are the messengers of Heaven, they appeal to humanity and warn us: wars, a pandemic, an ecological crisis - all these are the consequences of human hatred and enmity. We need to stop the race of consumption and enrichment, accept each other as brothers and gain true spiritual richness, i.e. love, peace and harmony with nature.
The angels are addressing each of us, offering to listen to the voice of our heart and follow the path of calling. What will be your respond? To listen to them or not - it's your choice

For Katerina, the themes of compassion and historical memory are important; through painting, the author comprehends the tragedies experienced by mankind in the 20th century and the troubles that we are witnessing today. The roots of these troubles are in our past, to find them and untie the knots of evil is the task of contemporary creativity.
A series of her mpaintings is dedicated to mourning the victims of war and repressions, these paintings tell about hope through tears
